Want to Know More About OUR Schools Program? Check Out the Most Frequently Asked Questions Below

These FAQs are designed to provide a better understanding of greeNEWit’s social initiatives, our services, and our energy savings incentive. They provide basic information and will often link to more detailed information.

Q. What is the Purpose of the OUR Schools Program?
A. Our main goal is to educate youth about energy efficiency and establish an eco-conscious mentality in everyday life. In addition, our program provides schools with the funds needed to take initiative toward becoming more sustainable.

Q. What Main Topics are Discussed During an OUR Schools Presentation?
A. We discuss the relationship between humans and the environment, renewable and fossil fuels, the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) and small behavioral changes that can save the environment. This is all taught through the lens of science, technology, engineering and math.

Q. What Age of Students Do You Present To?
A. Presentations are done at elementary schools within the state of Maryland.

Q. How Much Does the Quick Home Energy Check-up Cost?
A. As part of the Empower Maryland Energy Efficiency Act, QHECs are available at no additional cost to your utility bills. Owners and renters in the state may qualify simply by having an active utility bill. Check to see if your utility provider is participating in the Maryland QHEC Program by clicking here.

Q. What is the Best Way for Students to Sign People Up?
A. You can either fill out the hard copy form and turn it in at school or sign up online at greenewit.com. However, you must indicate the teacher who referred you so we can credit the sign up properly.

Q. Who Will Be Rewarded in the Energy Savings Incentive?
A. greeNEWit will give $20 for each completed QHEC, $40 for each energy audit and $50 for each successful installation of solar panels back to the school for investments in energy improvements. We’ll reward students in the top performing classroom with a prize and that classroom’s teacher will receive a $50 gift card.

Q. How Long Does the Energy Savings Incentive Last?
A. You’re encouraged to sign up within 30 days from the date of the presentation. We’ll schedule to cut a check for the school 90 days from the presentation. greeNEWit will also provide a case study showing how much energy and money your school saved.

We know that a sustainable society has a solid education at its core. By participating in the OUR Schools Program, students gain the necessary tools to help impact their life, energy and planet for a better future. It is then up to the students to use what they learned to maintain ownership, understanding and responsibility of their life’s energy use and our community’s carbon footprint. OUR Schools program positively impacts the following groups.


Schools
Active participation toward Green Schools certification or re-certification Money earned for STEM and energy efficiency investments

Teachers
Increased understanding of energy efficiency and resource consumption Four-part lesson plans for STEM curriculum (optional)

Students
Increased understanding of energy technologies and processes Fun day of learning via presentation and activities

Parents
Increased understanding of energy efficiency measures in their own home Money saved at no additional cost to their monthly utility bills
