COLUMBIA, MD – The World Trade Center Institute Baltimore in conjunction with USAID’s Community Connections Program included greeNEWit in their professional and cultural exchange for 10 visitors from Kazakhstan thanks to WTCI, USAID and the Community Connections Program.

The goal of the program is to expose the visitors to best practices in residential energy efficiency, effective public private partnerships, challenges of democratic institutions, and to forge connections between Maryland and Kazakhstan. Through meetings and site visits the visitors learned from leading Maryland companies including greeNEWit, BGE, Johnson Controls, Seawall Development Company, Bozzuto Homes, as well as local and federal government entities including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Maryland Department of Planning, Baltimore Development Corporation, and the Howard County Office of Sustainability. Maryland’s improving efforts in implementing energy efficient practices provides an opportunity for both regions to learn from each other, and increase the capacity and talent of participants so they can influence change in their communities and each other. As Maryland also seeks to improve its energy efficiency measures, involvement and partnership with professionals from Kazakhstan allows both parties to create professional connections and exchange best practices for ongoing and future development.

greeNEWit provided a lively presentation on business practices, culture and overall approach to the industry. Members of the group, including energy solutions companies Energy Management and Danfoss, exchanged best practices and described the economic climate for energy efficiency professionals in Kazakhstan.

A large portion of the conversation revolved around greeNEWit’s proprietary software used to make energy auditing and retrofit project management streamlined and efficient. The group was excited to see how greeNEWit has acts as an innovator in the field and continues to learn and improve.

greeNEWit’s director of residential energy solutions, Julie Roby, lead the meeting and enjoyed every minute of it. Roby says, “This group was one of the most engaging I’ve had the pleasure of working with during my time at greeNEWit. Learning about their burgeoning energy efficiency industry was inspiring and made me look at our own with a new perspective.”
